Castaway Island, Fiji (Qalito Island is the Fijian name) is committed to environmental responsibility – a key value of our operation – in preserving and protecting the island’s lush tropical vegetation, white sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs, by minimizing pollution and managing our human impact. In this regard, Castaway has adopted the goals and objectives of Outrigger’s Ozone initiatives, raising awareness of our fragile environment, especially our reef and marine ecosystem, through the education of our guests, staff, and local communities. We comply with all Fiji environmental legislation. We constantly monitor and improve the resort’s operation using relevant performance indicators and follow best practices. We give preference to employing individuals and to sourcing products and services of local community origin. We maintain operational best practices and conduct our business in harmony with our environmental and social commitments. We strive to ensure all employees receive the education and training necessary to carry out their work in an environmentally responsible manner, and encourage and recognize employees for their contribution towards improving our environmental performance. Our policy is communicated to all employees, customers, and suppliers; is made available on request to our associated stakeholders and guests; and is subject to annual review.
